Part 2 Now about that 4 day laborâ?¦ Romy went above and beyond the call of duty staying with us for most of that time. The only time Romy left was when we all decided it was a good time for everyone to get some rest when the contractions slowed to 30 minutes apart for the better part of day 3. This happened after getting to 3 minutes apart for a couple of hours in the evening of day 2. Our labor was definitely on the long side of the spectrum, but that only goes to show how committed Romy is to keeping up her end of the deal. And that brings me to one of the biggest reasons we hired her. When we interviewed other doulas we asked them when they would be available for us. The typical response was â??I would wait until you guys are 5 minutes apart before making my way overâ?. Romy simply said, â??As soon as youâ??re in labor and you think I can help!â? That was what we were hoping to hear. It was comforting to know that Romy would be available for us. And that was exactly what we needed.

Romy called me periodically to check out how each visit went with my midwives. She attended one of my visits at the birthing center where we discussed my birth plan. When the time came for the baby to arrive I called Romy to let her know. Even though, I was at the beginning stages of labor she came right away to be by my side and that is exactly where she stayed until Peyton was born. She was there to encourage me through 5 hours of pushing, hydrate me, let me squeeze the heck out of her legs, and take beautiful photographs (capturing some pretty incredible moments). When this wild ride was over, Romy continued to call, text, email, or come by and offer advice or just to say hello. She has been my strength and confidant through my very unique experience which is something that I will never forget and always be grateful for. Romy is simply a remarkable doula and a completely irreplaceable. Thank you, Romy. From the bottom of my heart from all of my family!

From the moment I met Romy, I was completely comfortable and knew I was in good hands. After all, you don't want to choose just anyone to help you deliver the most precious gift into this world! My fiancé works overseas and I don't have any family around to guide me through this, so it was important to pick the appropriate right hand man...or woman. Romy made it abundantly clear that I could call her anytime, day or night, with any sort of question or concern no matter how ridiculous or embarrassing I thought it may be. Once, I called her crying because I felt some strange pain in my lower back side and thought I was having early contractions. I was very concerned because my fiancé wasnâ??t home from overseas and I didn't know what to expect. She spent time with me on the phone reassuring me that everything was going to be ok and what I was feeling was probably Braxton Hicks (which it was). Although, if I were in labor I knew she would be there for me in a heartbeat! It's always nice to know that there's someone out there who you can count on. ......please read second 1/2 of my message
